The Maungaraki Tennis Club Grasshopper mini-tournament on 28th March was a great success. The weather was kind, and 30 children from the Maungaraki, Korokoro, Normandale and other locations in the Hutt Valley had a fantastic afternoon!

The tournament was aimed at 5-10 year olds who had not played much or any tennis, and all available places were quickly filled. There were 7 games each on special mini-courts, with winners in each age group being those with the most points overall. After the tournament, all the children enjoyed a sausage sizzle.

The winners were:
5/6/7 year olds: Laura Powlesland,  Ryan Jennings,  Finn O'Connell
8/9 year olds: Calvin Norris, Jake Chadwick, Annelisa Lummis
9/10 year olds: Jahkani Ashford, William Foster, Laura Kelly

Thanks to all the parent (and older children!) volunteers for scoring, for Simon O'Leary from Trans Tasman Tennis for overseeing the event, MTC club coaches Jason Kane and Gary Nelson, and the committee for making it happen.
